particles!
you should use particles instead of fading out
more double framing

more particles can better easing.
It should explode and ease into the point of the most smoke then hang around and start to particlize easing out.

Good for a first I recon, but particles are like, 90% needed for explosions.

It was alright for a first but there should be more particles and stuff but if you want to do a fade out thing you should extend the time of that the smoke fade's out and ease it way more, that way it'll look good and effective.

Well, It is not how they should look.

You need to add particles, as everyone has already said. Furthermore you should redraw every frame, and add better shading to the explosion. If you are doing a massive explosion, you need to make it take up the whole screen. It needs to blur more at the end.

I think you use practise on particles first before you start alphaing out
