Swine Flu Epidemic
IF this is not in the right section, please feel free to move it.
Places that are infected.
Apparently, It will take 6 months for a vaccine to made made, and released. If It doesn't get to england by then we will be fine. The cobra have already announced they are starting work on the vaccine. Furthermore, If mexico actually atleast try to keep it contained, like turkey and canda did with the last one, we will be ok aswell.
Masks are not completely reliable, the virus micro-organisms are very tiny, and even if there is a slightest gap in your mask, it will get through. (unlucky with the deformed ones out there). Furthermore the two so called ""cures" they have found are really expensive, and not always readily available.
This is serious *bleep* though. Fortunately for me, I am no in the targeted age group, but if you are 20-45 years old, you should watch out.

Places that are infected.
Testing has shown that the human swine influenza H1N1 can be treated with the antivirals oseltamavir (Tamiflu) and zanamivir (Relenza), according to the UK's Health Protection Agency. The health secretary, Alan Johnson, said yesterday that Tamiflu had proved effective on patients in Mexico. Demand has historically been greatest for Tamiflu, which comes in tablet form, while Relenza must be inhaled.

It's not in my area so I don't really care. Sounds pretty strange though.

Can we have some more intellectual input on a topic concerning the lives of people? Please?Comatose wrote:WERE ALL GOING TO DIEEEE
You may say I'm being hypocritical, but I don't have to worry because it has not spread to my area, or even fairly close for that matter, so I'm not worried about it. But if you believe you are going to die, then please express concerns why, instead of just panicking on an animation forum.

Well i was being sarcastic to the fact that were making a little bit of a big deal out of this.
i mean America, (my country) has claimed a state of emergency. which i think is a tad exccesive.

Re: Swine Flu Epidemic
Ok, just a little update, but try not to be immature over the lives of others.
No country is safe, this is the reason. Ok you may have loads of Tamiflu and Relenza, but that isn't effectively going to stop it. The only way we can contain and actually stop the virus is when the vaccine is made, and the average time for a vaccine to be allowed for use is 6 months. In those six months, do you honestly belive you area is going to stay un-affected?
I just found out today that there were 2 confirmed cases in scotland, which is close to england. Although they have been quarenteened, and it won't spread, It serves as a warning.
From what I have gathered this is no small matter we have on our hands.
EDIT: I just found out, that when the virus had mutated from mexico, the strain became weaker. Good news guys, It's not going to be as bad as it was in mexico. This might even die out quicker than I expected.

Re: Swine Flu Epidemic
Just stay healthy people, do not be too alarmed. The vaccine will be made soon, but in all honesty, if you don't have it, stay healthy and keep your immune system up (like spfy said) and you should be fine long enough to get the vaccine when it is made.

Re: Swine Flu Epidemic
We were sent a leaftlet, on how to wash our hands properly. :|
Also, there is a confirmed ilness in london... OH NOES!
Vaccines take 1-6 months to be made. Tamiflu is just a collection of antibodies, that kill the virus. It doesn't stop you from getting it again!
And that is true, you should wash your hands a lot.
It was rumoured that the governemnt ordered 30 million gas masks, but only the expensive ones keep out the pathogens. I think some "vicks first defense" is in need of.

Re: Swine Flu Epidemic
The global medical commity or whatever they are called have instructed all countrys to carry out their pandemic plans.
There is also a new advert on how to wash your hands!
I suggest you to carry around tissues, blow you nose and bin it. Furthermore, cary round one of those antiseptic hand washes, and use "vicks first defense" every morning.

Yea, thats right. Also, due to the recent news of swine flu reaching london, children and adults have taken thousands of sick leaves/bunking off school with an excuse that they have the swine flu.

Re: Swine Flu Epidemic
The good thing about australia, is that it is so far out from other countries, that the airbourne strain will not reach it.
However, if an immigrant/holiday maker was to bring it over, then your main cities may have to watch out.
Also, your low population density helps things a lot.
